What to do?
« on: Monday 24 September 07 12:54 BST (UK) »
OK, so Ive been on the freebmd/freecen site and Ive got a load of info on the dates and references for various births, deaths and marriages I want to obtain certificates for.

Ive seen notes saying that I need to go to or contact the individual local offices to get this information printed out for me.  My question is, isnt there somewhere I can go to get all the info in "one hit"?  For example, is there any way I can request all the forms I want online in one go, or somewhere I can physically go to get all the print outs I require?

Thanks in advance.

The BMD references you will have obtained from FreeBMD will be the GRO type, not recognised by Local Registry ofices.

To obtain as many Certs as you have the budget for at £7.00 per Cert use:-

hi toby

marriage certificates should provide the father and mother of the bride
and groom so this might save you some money rather than ordering
individual certificates

£7 a time ouch! for scottish certificates through scotlandspeople it only
costs £1.25 and you can view and print them straight away online
i did not realize how lucky we are

English Certs were assumed as the poster referenced FreeBMD.

I do however wish that we had the level of detail that Scottish Certs do

Send your folks out to Eastern Australia Newf - We have more information than the Scots - which is why I have such a bad opinion of (in particular) English death certificates - I am amazed (and impressed) that some folks actually find any useful information in same.

Trish

Edit: Scottish Civil reg started in 1855. They kept very detailed information for 1 year - so do try and have a relative who B M or D in 1855. They also have more information than the English for other years. They are also much cheaper to see the details. If you visit
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and check all the help, you will find lots of good information
