Hiya,

Ive recently started working in Anfield cemetery and came across the grave of 5 boys. The dates were from about 1910 onwards and the boys were in their early teens. The headstone mentioned The Liverpool Industrial School Everton.

My family have lived in the area for generations and nobody that I've asked has ever heard of the school, so I thought I'd google it and I've ended up here.

I'll go back to the grave and post the details next week.

I have only found this this topic in the last five minutes. I was looking for info on St George's Boys' Catholic Industrial School and was delighted to see the photograph.

There will always be people looking for graves apart from those who are interested in the industrial schools because they have found family there on a census. I'm sure there will be lots of us who will be interested in any details of graves you come across. I'm surprised that boys who died in an industrial school have a headstone on their grave.

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding your post, did you think the photo posted by Poplar was of St George's? That photo is of the Liverpool Industrial School that was located between Everton Terrace and Netherfield Road South.

Thanks, Blue. When so many different institutions are mentioned in one set of replies it's easy to get lost !  As it happens I'm still pleased to see a photograph of any of the industrial schools as I think it gives us an idea of the type of buildings that would be used.  I have seen a picture /photo (?) of Kirkdale Industrial School which to me looks purpose-built,  a single huge block with  empty land around it. The schools in Everton are based in already existing large terraced houses judging by the addresses,  so I am still pleased to see a photo which gives an impression of the size of them.

Addresses can be misleading they don't tell us if the institution is in a row of terraces such as the establishments in Shaw Street or detached. Maps are more useful in determining the layout of these schools. Looking at old maps and the photo posted by Poplar you can see that Liverpool Industrial School was purpose built. My Grandfather appears here in the 1891 census (11yrs) , he had a home and family, how can I find out the circumstances of his admission to the school?

FindMyPast have the Liverpool Workhouse registers online.

It was normal for a person to be admitted to the Workhouse proper, then children of the relevant age from their family to be syphoned off to the Industrial School at Kirkdale, so your relative will probably appear more than once.
