Henry J Street any help!
« on: Thursday 20 September 07 17:07 BST (UK) »
Back again with the same bloke & still stuck! This is my G g grandfather. Henry James W Street (1864 Leamington)  married Lilian Frisby 1890 Wolstanton, Staffs. My g g grandmother Alice McCrohan (1868 Brierley Hill) is living with him in 1901 in Birmingham. However, I cannot find a death for Lilian, a marriage for Alice & Henry (he later went by the name James) or any sign of Henry pre-1891.

I'm totally stuck! I'm assuming that his birth is Henry James Wareham Street (Warwick Q1 1864 6d 514) & from that I'm assuming that his parents are Henry James Street & Eliza Wareham (1856 Q4 6d 264 Birmingham) & I know that I'll need to get some certificates but I'd really like to find some trace of him or his parents anywhere in the censuses! The thing is I can't find any of them!! I can't find Henry jnr after in 1871 or 1881 & I can't find any reference to Henry snr & Eliza apart from 1871 where there is Eliza & Henery (sic) living in Wolstanton. I'm really confused & just need fresh eyes to look.

So if you're bored....!

Thanks

When you say Alice Mc is living with him in 1901, is this as his wife? Is Lillian there too?
Are you sure Lillian died and he did marry Alice?
Have you found Lillian elsewhere in 1901?

Ok, now I'm really stuck! Because the one in 1871 which matches Henry snr roughly in age has him as born in Upton, Lancashire & a solicitors clerk. I'm guessing that isn't a normal change of career! Actually looking at it now I'm thinking that it's Eliza in 1881 and she's given her name as Mrs Henry Street as the birth place matches. Was it usual for women to becoem coal merchants?

Here's 1871

RG10; Piece: 2847; Folio: 23; Page: 40

Henery James Street Head 36 bn Upton, Lancashire

Eliza Street 36 bn coventry warks (transcribed nicely on Ancestry as Wancks county  :o )

Joseph Hardean Street 7 bn Lemmington

Thanks for finding 1881 though, the fact that they're living in the same street helps as now I know that I have the right family in 1871 & I think I found them in 1861 but dismissed them because they were in Lancashire, so now I can go back & find them there. I'll let you know how I get on!

Sorry, yes she was living with him as his wife and went by Alice Street so I assume that they were married and that Lilian had died, however, I can find no record of her death & no record of Alice an Henry's marriage
