How do you know what "old" parish a village was in?

Im after the info on Graveney, which I think is near Faversham; but cant find anything to tell me which Parish to look under.

Graveney is a parish in it's own right ie. it has it's own parish church.  The original church registers are at Canterbury Cathedral Archives but some of the more recent ones are probably still at the church.

Unlikely to be on line, but they are available on microfiche from Kent FHS (www.kfhs.org.uk) as is the 1841 census.  The parish registers are also available on CD from the same source.

You'll also find a set of the surviving Graveney parish registers on microfilm at Faversham Library. However, if you plan on visiting them, phone ahead and book your reader, since they only have two machines!

Graveney is, ecclesiastically in the diocese of Canterbury, in the archdeaconry of C'bury and in the deanery of Ospringe. The Church is named All Saints with original parish registers commencing 1653.

Population in 1861: 234. Houses: 45.

Graveney parish has been a bugbear with me for a long time.  First of all, they never turned over their records to the LDS for microfilming.  I've been told that this was for theological reasons.  Secondly, according to the warden, a number of years ago the whole parish chest was stolen.  (I saw that thing.  It was huge -- and heavy!)   The thieves burned all the paper in it  then tried to pawn the plate.

I didn't know that Faversham Library had a copy of the PRs.  If so they are precious.  I wish I had known that when I was in the UK this summer.

To Toby, I'd like to know who you are researching if you wouldn't mind telling me, please, as Graveney is where my brick wall is.
