               Is this from a newspaper,if so which one and what date please,
interesting reading, I did find a picture of him on www.awm.gov.au while in the Aus army 2nd WW, apparently he and Beatrix were close, I get the feeling they lived in the same area, Belle

Yes, Sister of both. I would love to see what information you have regarding the history of Thomas/ David.

Their Mother (whom I believe you have spoken with over the phone - but it would have been a couple of years ago) has some information, but I am yet to see it.

As far as I can tell there was a David Monaghan (b. 1872) who changed his name to Shubart for some reason.  Looks like he may have been living with his grand parents in England (1881 Census).

Nice to meet you,its funny but i have just come from another post on this site,someone with the same interest in the Shubarts, her name is Mary also from Australia any connection? any way I've copy and past the info from there to here hope it helps.
I do have B. M. D certificates and some Army records if that helps.


David H J is on the  1881 and 1891 census, the reason  you haven't found him is....on the 1881 census he is living with his grandparents David and Jeannette Shubart and g-grandmother Mary Copeland and he is down as Monaghan not Shubart,his mother was Mary Sophia Shubart, born1850 in India,she married a James Monaghan in Devon 1866.

On the1891 census he is still living with grandparents but has changed from Monaghan to Shubart and his sister Rose ( Rosa) is also living there.At this time he has joined the Army aged 19. He made a career in the Army till he died in 1941 aged 68 Exminster Devon. He spent most of his life in India and he was born there March 8th 1872.

He married Elizabeth Annie Lee in 1892 in Devon, they had 6 children:Winfred Mary B/1894 Devon (my Grandmother) Eric Lee B/1895 India, Beatrix Victoria B/ 1897 India, David Stanley B/1898, Thomas Edgar B/1900 India, Shirin Jeanette B/ 1905 India.

Just to update this thread,
I did find Beatrix/Beatrice's husbands death,
Arthur James Hamilton
Occupation: Taxi Driver
Died 18 May 1941 age 53 at Alfred Hospital, Melbourne
Cause: Acute Asthma
Father name: James Hamilton, Occupation: Horse Trainer
Mother unknown.
Buried: Springvale

He was born in Melbourne and married Beatrix in Bombay, India 1919,they had 2 sons Trevor who was 20 and Ian 8 at the time of his death.
Also found Trevor's Australian Army service, he enlisted in 1939.
Have no further information on Ian.
