1851 census Leeds, Wood Family lookup

Hi, hoping someone may be able to help me with my family. I've been trying to find out more for what seems forever but haven't found a thing! So I'm hoping that census details may be able to help me. All I know is as follows:

John Wood married Mary Ann Chew 1829 in Leeds. They had a daughter Mary Ann Chew Wood born in 1842 in Leeds. (I have her birth certificate and I know she married John Mutch in 1859 and I have their descendants)... and that's all I know of the Wood family! Not much to go on... but help!!! There must have been more children... everyone had heaps back then!

Hi,

Do you have a Street Address from the birth certificate.  There is always a possibility of them living there in the 1841 census.
Also what whas John`s occupation on the birth certificate.

Theres a marriage for John Wood and  Mary Chew 1829 Leeds
and a marriage for Mary Elizabeth Chew Wood to John Mutch 1859 Leeds

Thankyou all so much for the quick responses. I'm absolutely flabbergasted! and completely thrilled
It's definitely Mary Ann Chew. She registered Mary Elizabeth's birth in 1842.
They were living at 6 Somerset Street and John occupation was listed as a sawyer. I have the marriage of Mary Wood to John Mutch. They were married 8 May 1859 and were both living in Hope Street Leeds.

I have just realised... at least I think I have... Mary has listed her maiden name with no mention of being Mrs Wood!! Maybe this is one of those family secrets we all get told we need not know.


I think I have a huge Apology to put to you all. I just looked in freebmd and found that their marriage was actually listed in 1844. It wasn't there last time I looked but thankfully the transcribers are still hard at work. Will get the certificate and see what I can find out from that.
