Boer War soldier ? How to find out ...
« on: Tuesday 11 September 07 15:25 BST (UK) »
My grandfather was of an age to have been a soldier in the Boer War ... he was aged 34 when he signed up for WW1.

I have found in a box of 'family stuff' a badge or two which suggests someone in the family was there, (or collected memorabilia !)

I'll put a photo up later ... but are their records anywhere listing soldiers who fought and came home to fight again ?

Hi

My grandfather joined the army, served in Ireland, then the Boer War and then WW1. I was able to find his army records at the National Archives.

What was his name and do you have his regiment and army service no.

                                                               Regards
                                                                        Geoff

If he was cavalry, an excellent site is http://hometown.aol.co.uk/kevinasplin/home.html

The badge would be useful for an ID as well if you can pop that up as well...
One more charge and then be dumb,

May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

Hi Neil - cheers for that.

I have a William Kingman - allegedly a photo exists with him in the Uniform.

The only vital facts known about him are a possible 1901 census entry stating DoB c1869, Maidstone, Kent ... a marriage Cert 1904 Kent, and a Death Index entry - all 3 sources yield DoB 1869-1871.
