Does anyone know anything of this yard, have googled the exact address and have not found anything except East Sandgate. My family definitely lived there 1881 to1909
Many thanks

Hi Elaine

Rode past the road end on Saturday. If I get time tomorrow I'll pop over again with my camera and see if there is anything of Althorp(e) Yard remaining.

Regards
Andy

Hi Elaine

Had a wander round the East Sandgate area and I could not find any signs for an Althorpe Yard. The attached pictures show-
1. The end of East Sandgate on the Harbourside.
2. Steep slope leading up from pic 1
3. Around the bend where it flattens out.
4. From the top end of East Sandgate.
5. Back to the bottom of the street and the only typical Yard way entrance I could find.
6. Closer view of unnamed yardway.
7. House at the end of the yardway.

As you can see the street is a patch work of properties from all periods. pics 5 & 6 may be Althorpe Yard or it may have been demolished it will take a bit more digging to try and find its exact position.

Good Luck
Andy

Hi

The house with the bay and wood frame is my house :). Not heard of a Althorpes yard but will keep looking, there were many many yards in this area, all just about gone now since the 60's slum clearances. This is a picture of Whartons yard which ran off Quay Street, and the coloured one is Wyrills yard which was the back of my house not related to your search but which would have been very much the same. I have also attached an old picture of my house which will give you a general picture of what the area was like. I will keep looking though as we have old maps too and will come back to you
