« on: Saturday 08 September 07 19:02 BST (UK) »
Hi

A relative kindly supplied me with some dates some years back and now I'm trying to find some more accurate info :D

Is anyone able to help me find the following:  (all took place in Northenden)

Burial of Samuel Axon c1741
Burial of Mary Axon c1729
Baptism of Ellin Axon c1700 (not the one bap 9-1-1703)
Burial of Ellin Axon c1700
Baptism of Martha Axon c1712
Marriage of John Axon and Esther ? c1761
Burial of John Axon c1774
Burial of Elizabeth Axon c1761

I know I'm asking for quite a lot of information but any of the above would really help me.

Many thanks in advance  :D

Hi

Sorry don't have access to parish records but do have a marriage index that shows

8/Nov/1761 at Northenden John Axon/Esther Hardy (otherwise known as Price)

hope this helps a bit

Hi Peter

Thanks for the info - interesting that Esther was known as Hardy and Price.  Perhaps Price was her maiden name and Hardy her married name?

I know its a bit cheeky but would you mind checking the index for James Axon as well please - I forgot to add this to my post.  James was born in 1739 and had his first child in 1769 so would have married c1768.  I have never been able to find the name of his wife - all the baptism records give only his name.  I'm assuming this would also have taken place in Northenden.

Thanks again Peter - my tree is slowly beginning to look a little more 'meaty'

It looks to me as if Esther was maybe born a Hardy (illegitimate) then her mother married a Price so the family may have been known as the Prices. Or vise-versa  ???
I say this because the marriage index and parish records normally indicate where a person is a widow/widower.

As for James Axon there is nothing at Northenden, plenty in Stockport, but one that stood was this in the parish of Bowden.

18/May/1761 James Axon carpenter of Northenden and Mary Heath of Bowden.

Do you have their children's names ? the girls may be a help in identifying the mum.

Hi
Thanks for your reply.  This one certainly does look promising but unfortunately the daughters names were Betty and Hannah.  However, Betty was baptised in 1769 (of course she could have been born earlier) and was the eldest daughter.  There is always a chance that there could be more children earlier though.

I will certainly pencil this one into my tree as a strong possibility though.

Thanks again for all your help
