Does anyone know anything of Penninah Bosson
« on: Wednesday 05 September 07 21:31 BST (UK) »
Penninah Bosson married my great uncle Samuel Nevitt at Wolstanton, April, 1908.
Cheshire BMD entry
BOSSON   Penninah   NEVITT   Samuel   Civil Marriage (Wolstanton)   Stoke-On-Trent    WRO/50/069.

After his death in 1919 she married again and I believe had further issue.

Surname   Forename(s)   Surname   Forename(s)    Church / Register Office   Registers At   Reference
NEVITT *   Peninnah   STRONG   William   Kidsgrove, St Thomas   Newcastle-Under-Lyme    C14/4/282

Apart from her marriage entries I cannot find any other reference to her. I would love to know where she lived prior to her first marriage and/or where she was born. Has anyone else found reference to her? I am not near enough unfortunately to plough through parish records, etc so I would appreciate any information you might have.
Thanks
Nell

What a wonderful name!

This is recent enough not to have to resort to ploughing through parish records.

However, the fact that I cannot find her on either the1881 census, or the Free birth indexes (although latter not complete)  - did you check these? both free, BMD indexes on either ancestry or FreeBMD, 1881 census on either Ancestry or familysearch.org - makes me wonder if she had been married before, and Bosson was not her maiden name.  Does the Bosson/Nevitt marriage indicate if she was a spinster or a widow?

Nothing seems to show up for up, pre marraige to Nevitt.

I would get the marriage cert - at least that will give you her father's name (Bosson or otherwise) to help.

The nearest in the Census is a Paulina Bosson born in Tunstall in c 1887.

That looks vaguely hopeful

Her birth in free list on ancestry:

Oct/Nov/Dec 1887
Paulin_ Bosson
Wolstanton reg distr

6b 102

I'll look and see how FreeBMD transcribe it. But would be best if someone could look at the image.

It's PAULINA on the original image.

BTW, Ancestry's free BMD is FreeBMD - so it is exactly the same transcription - mistakes and all.

I must apologise first of all for not checking all my sources and contacts on Genes Reunited, before I posted my first reply.
I checked later, and seen that someone whose Family Tree I have access to,lists this Penninah to have been born in c 1884 in Staffordshire. However she lists the Marriage to Samuel Nevitt, only as she appears to be related to the Nevitt Family.
If I was being wildly speculative,I would say she was the daughter of David and Annie Bosson,as listed in the 1891 Census;RG12/2160/53/41.David is listed as Bossow, and Annie and the daughter are listed as Brundrett. This David Bosson is as equally elusive in the earlier Census years, and I can't see any sign of him in the 1901 Census.

David Bosson living in Tunstall with wife and daughter both named Annice is listed on Ancestry as BOSSONE.

Class: RG13/ Piece: 2592/ Folio: 11/ Page; 13

Think this is the same one as in 1891 - not sure that Annice (aged 17 in 1901) would be Penninah though.

A birth of Annis BOSSENS was registered Wolstanton dist. DecQ 1883
