Funny you should mention the Family Bible. Regarding my grandmother's house being pulled down. When she died, her brother lived in it until he died and left it to charity, the charity being the ones that actually sold the house before demolition. However, I found out from the neighbours that the brother actually gave them the Family Bible before he died as a token of thanks for looking after him in his latter life.
I politely asked these neighoburs, if the Bible was gathering dust, I would gladly accept it from them. They declined my offer, however, allowed me to take photo's of it, and including handwritten notes on the family within the bible itself. That was about 6 years ago. I wrote to the neighbours about 3 years ago, again requesting I would take the bible if they didn't want it. This time no reply at all.
I suppose one has to take the "good" (original box of documents I received) with the "bad" (Family Bible I didn't receive).
