MELLON 1791 Antrim

Richard Mellon born 1791 son John born 1817 Antrim, John married 1839 Durham England and died 1880 Durham England. Any info on this family please.

Hi Carol,

What denomination were the Mellon family? There's no listing of that surname in the 1796 Spinning Wheel Census (Flax Growers List) but there are several listings on Griffiths Valuation of Co. Antrim of 1861-2. I realise that your ancestors were in England prior to the Valuation but there may have been relatives remaining in Ireland. Both the Census and Valuation are on John Hayes failteromhat.com website

I don't have any definite evidence of a link here, but tell me what you think:
My third great grandfather John Mellon was born abt 1818 in County Antrim. He emigrated to County Durham, England and worked in the coal mines. I have not had much luck with source material aside from the census, and he drops off after 1871. It would be great to connect the dots!

John Mellon died 1880 in Trimdon but his wife Ann is there in 1881
