Can anyone make out this Warwickshire place name?
« on: Tuesday 04 September 07 22:32 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I have Mary Ward born 1831 on 1861 census she is 2nd entry on Page 15 Folio 67, PG9 - 2225.  It says she comes from Teachborks Warwickshire, but I can't find such a place and can't quite decipher it.   ???

Has anyone any ideas please?

Thanks, Joan

To me it looks like Leachbrook. I wondered about Tachbrook, but there definitely appears to be an "e" .

Hi,

I see what you mean about the Bishops Tachbrook.  I've checked and there is no parish name of Leachbrook.  Might give it a go as Bishops Tachbrook and look for her on 1841 unmarried, Mary Johnson.

Thanks  ;D

Bishop's Tachbrook which is south of Leamington is known locally as Tachbrook and so is very likely.

As a "Leamingtonian" born and bred I concur that it is indeed Tachbrook that you need to be looking at!

Must have been an enumerator with poor hearing!

Hi Joan

I know this thread is out of date but it is worth a shot. I was wondering if you got any further with your Mary Johnson.

If I am correct I believe you are talking about my Grt x 3 Grandmother.

Can I just confirm a bit of background info with you. Mary was the daughter of William Johnson. She married William Ward on 30 Dec 1849 at St Marys Church, Warwick. By 1871 the family have moved from Warwick and are living in Audenshaw. Mary is still alive on the 1911 census living with her daughter Alice who is now married to a Flindle. My connection to her is through her son William.

Would love to learn if you ever managed to get any further back on her line.

Sorry if I have already been in touch with you before.

Haydn Ward
