Hi Karen              Thanks for your reply and so much  info ;D. even down to a discription of what Susan B Cockburn looked liked.

Please could you point me in the right direction to find more info on James Leishman Susans husband.I have been trying with no luck so far to find James on shipping lists.I have still a lot of cemetery links to try that Janice kindly sent me.
Again many thanks.

Hi Karen

My aunt has said in the past James and John Leishman each married a Cockburn sister.I have found John Leishman did marry a Marion Cockburn, John died in Edinburgh not Canada.I have still to check for John's wifes m.s but unfortunately work got in the way.I think my aunt maybe has half the story right, there is another brother William Leishman b1885 but doubt 3 brothers would marry 3 Cockburn sisters.

Can you explain in your earlier posting of Susans border crossing   -   date of landing: Montreal Sept 1912,SS unknown.Did she make the crossing without James her husband. Is it possible to get a discription of James.

All help appreciated as I am out of my comfort zone of Scottish genealogy sites and am clueless when it comes to Canadian sites.

Fiona

Hi Karen

Just to let you know I have just checked James Leishmans brother John Leishman wife Marion Rattray Cockburns (Susan B Cockburns sister)death record on SP Susan and Marion are the daughters of Alexander Cockburn and Marion Brotherston. So like I said earlier my aunt was half right with her story of 2 Leishman brothers marrying 2 Cockburn sisters but only 1 brother and 1 sister going to Canada.

Another possible clue:

Death record

Registration #: 43-703028
Name: Herman Ivan Leishman
Place of Death: Sicily (in the field)
Residence: Dean Lake, Ontario (a settlement between Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury)
Date of Death: 3 Aug 1943
Cause of Death: Killed in Action
Date of Birth: 10 Apr 1919
Place of Birth: Ontario
Father: James Hogarth Leishman
Mother: not given
Racial Origin: English (this doesn't match, but I wouldn't let that be the only reason to dismiss this as a possibility)

Not that it is hugely significant at this stage of the game...but after checking the census probably every single time I got notified, I finally found them in 1911....I checked the surnames in Nipissing, all the North bay listings Ugh...made me crazy...
Here they are as Lishman, transcribed as Lohman...
both say immigrated from Scotland in 1906...There is a new baby...Morris / Moores? he's a fitter and she is ?...Never mind...it is more legible below...she is "at Home" Duh!

I don't know if these have to do with your family, but they are books that mention the Leishman family.
