ROBERTS of Kent
« on: Saturday 01 September 07 21:17 BST (UK) »
Hi

My ancestor Thomas Roberts was born in c1778 in Kent. He wed in 1807 in Patrixbourne, near Canterbury. I have not yet found his baptism.

But I was reading about the famous Roberts Baronets of Glassenbury, who lived there in the 1400s to the 1700s. I wonder if my Thomas Roberts is a distant relation as he worked as a servant for rich country manors in Patrixbourne and later Kemsing near Sevenoaks. It is probably a long shot, but Roberts is not as common in Kent as it is in Wales, where the surname originates.

I wonder if it is the same for several people tracing Roberts in Kent?

Ben

Hi Betty

Yes, its OK I already have the marriage details of Thomas Roberts to Ann Goodacre. She was a widow.

Could you try and find any other Goodacre or Roberts marriages 1800-1810 in the same area please, and any other Roberts BMDs in Patrixbourne?

I am especially after Thomas baptism c1778 but Kent is poorly covered by the IGI, and I dont know of any Kent Baptism Websites apart from CityArk Medway which is only for Gravesend and Chatham areas.

Thanks

Ben

Hi Betty

Yes that marriage is the right marriage. Goodacre was mistranscribed as Goodham. They wed by license, and the license says Thos Roberts and Ann Goodacre, and they were going to get wed at Patrixbourne on the 1st October 1807.

Thanks for the other stuff anyway.

I also have an interest in the surname ROBERTS of Kent .
My Great Grandmother was Lucy Ann Roberts Brn. 1848 in Alkham Kent to James Roberts brn. 1813 in Seabrook, Kent and Matilda Roots brn.1814 in Rounham, Kent .
Lucy had a brother George brn.1842 Alkham  and a sister Mary Ann brn.1843 also in Alkham , there could be others , I haven't been able to find them, and I have no info on James or Matildas parents, can anyone help?
