A friend in the village has asked me if I can help solve a family mystery !

This man was an uncle; he was born in UK, and went to Canada before WW1. He then joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force, and served in France.  He was a corporal, no. 826361.   

It is believed in her family that after the war he was transferred to the North Staffordshire Regiment ... but she doesn't know how to prove this one way or the other ... can anyone help please ?

(I've suggested she joins RootsChat ... problem is she doesn't have a computer !)

I resent that,  was only trying to be helpfull, if he was British and the service number you gave come's up with the name Cross.

Sorry Ricky, didnt mean to get at you ... but I think I said he was with the Canadian Expeditionary Force, and he was a corporal in that Canadian force; the number I was given is the number he had with them ... my friend doesn't have any info or numbers about him in the British army, just a family rumour about him being transferred or joining the North Staffs after WW1 ...
