Hi,
1. Was Dawgreen a particular area of Irish population,
....Yes - and still is. There is a big Irish National Club & Rugby Club in West Town. The Catholic Church of St Paulinus also seems to be thriving - nightmare on a Sunday morning because they park all over the place!
2. Mary was a Rag Sorter in the mill. Was there a specific mill in Dawgreen at that time and is there a written history of that we could find.
....There were (and there are still some left) plenty of Rag Mills within a radius of a few miles - Dewsbury/Batley was/is known as the Heavy Woollen District. Best shot would be a Trade Directory..
3. Is there any record of the arrival Irish settlers in the area we believe they arrived between 1851 -1860
..Try Huddersfield & District FHS, you might be lucky.
4. Any thoughts on firming up the link between James and Huddersfield Edward.
It is very possible.... there was a huge influx of Irish in to Huddersfield at the time. My other halfs G/G-Grandfather arrived in HUddersfield late 1870's. Just take a look in the census to see what I mean..
