1851 and 1861 Peter Brown COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 28 August 07 12:03 BST (UK) »
I am looking for Peter Brown in the 1851 and 1861 census.
This is him in 1841 census living at Shortwood, Horsley
Peter Brown born 1801, Horsley Gloucestershire, Ag Labourer
Ann Brown age 40
Esther age 17
Job age 10
Joseph age 5
Mary age 7
Sarah age 14

Ann his wife died 1842 so I dont know if he remarried or if he is living with some of his kids. I hope someone can find him. He died in 1863 aged 73 which gives him an alternate birth date of 1790.
Thanks
Shauna

Hello distant cousin,
All I can tell you on Peter Brown is that he married Ann Wall 10/6/1819 at Horsley parish church. It does not appear that either Peter or Ann were bapt in Shortwood. Ann Brown was buried in Shortwood 10/4/1842 aged 43 and Peter was buried at Shortwood 18/10/1863 aged 73.
I am descended from their daughter Esther Brown who married Richard Page.

Sarah Brown, another daughter, married William Burrows  and Mary Ann Brown their youngest daughter married Leonard Clissold.

Did your Joseph go under the name of Josiah and marry an Elizabeth in Wales, son Richard Henry Brown? If not, can you tell me any details on him?

 Cheers
Shauna

wow this is so cool. i have only been on it for a few days for my mum. truthfully i know no cousins from brown side at all. joseph the youngest of peters children married sarah davis. they had thomas in 1859, job in 62,john in  66 (my g g grandad), edwin in 69, celeb george in 78. i have found some of their children but get stuck on ansestry site as it does not go past 1922. if you want i can fill you in on what i know there and dates.

my great great grandad was john. he married sarah philips. they had 2 sons thomas henry who was killed young on somme in ww1. he is on monument here in coleford glos where i live. other son william married ethal strickland. they had 1 son thomas, my grandad. he married my nan dorothy barlow and had 1 daughter my mum who was susan brown till she married my dad.

my mum has always wanted to do a family tree as she knew her great grandad john was 1 of many. guess joseph brown left his dad peter and family in horsley to come down to the forest/monmouth for work. would love to get back past peter. may need a trip to horsley. was loads of browns there. wonderful to hear back from you. charlotte

Hi Charlotte,
Welcome to Rootschat.
Thanks for sharing your info with me. There is no guarantee I have it all correct with Peter but lets hope so. Your best bet would be to go to Gloucestershire records office which I think is in Gloucester from memory. It is a bit far for me as I live in Australia.
Rootschat can be extremely helpful if the volunteers have the resources so have a look at what is on offer for Gloucestershire and Wales. It definately isnt easy with a name like Brown. Although not complete this site: http://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/bmd/MainMenu.aspx   is also very useful.
Good luck  :)
Cheers
Shauna.
Your Thomas Henry was the 3rd decendant of Peter Brown to die in WW1 at the Somme.
One was my great uncle Stanley Ewart Page
