1841 Beazley. Revised
« on: Saturday 25 August 07 22:35 BST (UK) »
This is a revised post of an earlier request.
I'm looking for Thomas Beazley approx age 40. Living in the Bethnal green area.In 1846 he was a Tallow Chandler. He may or may not have a son (Thomas)age 17 with him.I've said his age is approx 40 because his son was born in 1824/25 in Bethnal green. I'm trying to find his wife and any other siblings. Thanks.

Hi,

Have you seen this family in 1841?

1841  HO107/691/5  F.17  p.27  Bethnal Green
Tower Hamlets
Bethnal Green

Sophia BEEZELEY  45                    N
Thomas               15  Silk Presser  Y
Sophia                 15               Y
Emma                  15               Y
Samuel                  9               Y
Elizabeth               4               Y

All the above children + some others could be these from the IGI,

Sophia BEASLEY
Birth: 17 Mar 1822
Chr: 14 April 1822

Thomas BEASLEY
Birth: 11 Apr 1824
Chr: 09 May 1824

Emma BEASLEY
Birth: 29 Apr 1826
Chr: 28 May 1826

James BEAZLEY
Birth: 16 Jul 1830
Chr: 10 Oct 1830

Eleanor BEASLEY
Birth: 26 Nov 1834
Chr: 01 Feb 1835

Elizabeth Louisa BEAZLEY
Chr: 27 Aug 1827
age at Chr: 1

All christened at Saint Leonards, Shoreditch with parents Thomas and Sophia.

In 1841 Thomas could be dead or away, this looks like Sophia in 1851, transcribed as BEAGLEY,

1851 HO107/1538  f.133  p.25  Shoreditch
3 Gloucester Place

Sophia BEAZLEY    Head  W  55  Shoe Binder    Suffolk
James                  Son   Un  20  Shoe Maker    Middx Bethnal Green
Elizabeth             Daur         15  Shoe Binder     "  "        "  "

From your other post you were looking for the family of the son Thomas, is he the Thomas, bootmaker, married to Ann in 1871 RG10/485  f.89  p.28 living in Bethnal Green but giving his birthplace as Hackney Rd?  If so I thought this might be interesting,

'Though now part of the inner city, Shoreditch was previously an extra-mural suburb of the City of London, centred around Shoreditch Church at the crossroads where Shoreditch High Street and Kingsland Road are intersected by Old Street and Hackney Road.'

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoreditch

Shoreditch Church is St Leonards,

Hi Daisy.
Thats brilliant,I had the info from the IGI and believed that Sophia was the mother but didn't have that final piece of evidence.Whats clinched it was the Piggots marriage index. On Saturday I received the marriage cert of son Thomas,he was married in 1846,it showed his father as being alive so he was away in the 41 census( could have had James age 11 with him?) Here's the exciting part, one of the witnesses was a Samuel Block ( perhaps his uncle or cousin?)I'll see what the IGI throws up. Am I getting my hopes up to soon? lets hope not ;D Thanks again for all the work you did.Good detecting.

Hi Ken

Quote
On Saturday I received the marriage cert of son Thomas,he was married in 1846,it showed his father as being alive so he was away in the 41 census

In the early days of civil registration (and certainly much later in some parishes) it wasn't very common for the father to be noted as deceased even if he was thus I would suggest keeping an open mind as to whether he was, in fact, deceased prior to 1841.  I am assuming here that you mean he wasn't mentioned as deceased rather than being one of the witnesses :-\

Thanks Cas,I was assuming he was alive because of the info on the certificate. I will keep an open mind on this one. :) :)
