Deb,

Thanks again. Any info about William James LEAN COLE (he borrowed the first surname from his mother Jane and that started the LEAN COLE saga, or was LEAN still a middle name?)

Michael

hi

the children of William James Lean Cole and Ethel Bridger were;
Osmer Lean COLE  b 1860
Herbert Lean COLE b 1862
both in Hampshire .

Lean was used as a middle name ....

Deb,

You're right, but Enrique LEAN COLE, my grandfather (son of Herbert Lean COLE), used LEAN COLE as a surname and since then it's the surname of the family. Do you think that this is a common thing? Do you think that we must hypehn LEAN-COLE?

Michael

Hi Michael

Yes that does happen ...many people choose to make their middle names  part of their surnames...I think that if Lean Cole is being used as a surname it should be hyphenated ...just to make it easier for future genealogists LOL

When and where was William james Lean Cole born ... I am going to post the census with Ethel Cole nee Bridger ...William J L Cole is also gone during census taking !!! I cannot find his birth on IGI  although I found his sister's , Caroline Rebecca... see previous posts.

Rebecca also seems to be a prominent name in the family!
