I'm trying to do  both things: go further back and find living relatives as well, but I don't know how to proceed. How do you have access to all Census? Is that the only source of information I should look for? I guess you're very experienced in this so please give some tips.

I use ancestry and the national archives as well as IGI ....International Genealogical Index.

Keith and I have a whole lot on your Ethel Bridger, which I am sure he has shared with you ...well I hope so

This is rather strange ...I cannot find the birt/christening of Jane Sedgwick LEAN. I have however found this in IGI (extracted records) ...which I believe are Jane's siblings ....

These are all children of FRANCIS LEAN and Rebecca, all born in Stoke Damerel, Devon.

(Alice states on the 1861 census when she is living with her niece , Rebecca,  that she was born at sea ... note the 4 year gap from her birth to her christening!)
