Immigration >1851
« on: Monday 20 August 07 04:45 BST (UK) »
Hi
I'm  trying to find my LYNCH family entering Australia
David George born 1823 Yorkshire wife Maria born 1821 Yorkshire and at least one child David James 1850 Manchester but I've seen Leeds on other info.
I have this family in Manchester in the 1851 census......then David James marrying in 1878 Yass, NSW
In David James' obit it says he was in the country for 52 years......would make him around 7 (1857)
I know obits can be inaccurate but its all I have to go on.

I'm beginning to believe in UFO's
Can anyone help???????

Hi Terese
Do you have David George Lynch and wife Maria's death certficates? If so, their stated number of years in the colony may give you a more accurate date for the family's arrival here. If they agree with son David James' estimated date of 1857, you'll be lucky. If they don't, you may have to search several years.

You can search assisted immigrants on www.records.nsw.gov.au, assuming they arrived in NSW.  Unassisted immigrants are much more difficult to find. When you ascertain the likely years they may have arrived here, you need to search each film reel for that period and search each ship's passenger list separately. (These film reels are avaialble in most large libraries and in family history societies).

Good luck
Diana

Hi CuriousDiana
I can't get their death certs until I find them!!!! I have no solid record of them in Australia at all.
I've looked through every record I can think of on-line and can't match up incoming with my group.
There is always a chance one of the parents died in England or some other event and I'm searching for the wrong grouping but the names and dates just don't quite jell.
Oh well thats the fun of it  :'(

On the online index for NSW bdm, www.bdm.nsw.gov.au  , a death:

7697/1909    LYNCH    DAVID J    DAVID G    MARIA    YASS

I can't see your David G's death.  There are some Maria Lynch candidates on the index.

You could order David J's death cert online and see if it gives you any clues.

Hi MariaC
I have David J's certificate and it says he was in Australia for 52 years.....thats why I think he must have come with parents but I can't establish when and where.
I have a possible death for David G in 1900 so I may just buy it and see if its him
Thanks for your reply

Hi Terese

You can get a transcription agent to check just 3 fields and if the details match they will upgrade to the full price.  You would probably want age, place of birth, parents etc.

Thanks Cazay
I'll give the agent I use a call today and see if she will do that. Certainly sounds the way to go.
Many Thanks
