What Happend to Thomas NEWTON?
« on: Sunday 19 August 07 11:28 BST (UK) »
Hi Good Morning
What happend to my Thomas Newton Plymouth he was married to Mary had three children George, Charles, and Sarah Susan Jane, in 1871 was listed as being a marriner, then Mary marries again to  mumford and saunders and Bennett busy lady? Thomas would have been my GG Grandfather I have not had any luck finding a death for him or maybe he died at sea although on his son George Marriage cert 1897 says he is still alive but maybe that info is wrong as sometimes this was the case.
If anyone can help I would be grateful.
Regards
Val

Hi Val

I just want to make sure I have the correct family here:

1871
Charles, Plymouth devon

Thomas Newton head mar 22 Mariner
Mary wife mar 23 Mariners wife b Broadhempston, Devon
George son 2 mariner's son b plymouth
Sarah dau 8 months mariner's dau b Plymouth

the reason I am asking is that there is no Charles. Also I am not sure of Thomas' place of birth ...It has been transcribed as Sutton in Ashfield, Devon although on the original, next to Sutton in Ashfield it looks like the word "NOTTS" has been written in .

ahh have just checked 1881 and I see Charles aged 8, along with all the Mumford  and Saunders children  ;D

I will keep looking for Thomas

I was just looking at my last post and thinking how could she have married 2 guys in one year ... Richard Saunders June q 1881 and then John Bennett in Dec q 1881....

There is a death of a Richard Saunders in Plymouth ...June q 1881 ....

oh my ...this is rather confusing ....could this be correct ???

what do you think ?

Would she have married, lost her husband and then married again all in the same year ?

She is definitely with John Bennett in 1891 along with all the children!

hi

Cannot find a death for Thomas Newton between 1871 (when he is with Mary and 2 children) and 1873 (when Mary marries Charles Mumford)!
There is, however, a few marriages for Thomas Newton in Plymouth after 1873. Did people get divorced in those days?

There is this death which may be a possible:
Thomas Newton
b abt 1850
d Mar q 1898
Axminster, devon

Charles , Mary's son b 1873, must have been just born when she married Mr. Mumford.
