Cotterill

I am researching the Cotterill family from Staffordshire, (possible links with Tipton) They married into the Willington family of Tettenhall in the late 1700's .  Would like to hear from anyone with connections to this family.

Hi Ruth, there's a James Cotterill who was a legatee under the will (1665) of Matthew Bayley gent., of Madeley. He received two shillings - doesn't really seem very much does it? Jayson.

Hello Jayson

Thank you for your reply but I haven't got back to the 1600's yet, however I will keep this in mind.  Ruth

I have a Phoebe Cottrill b.1814 Shurly in Warwickshire who married Benjamin Parry in Tipton Staffs. I have not been able to trace any further back I'm afraid as I don't have access to Parish Records. The reference to Shurly was found on census only.
Don't know if any of this may be relevent to your Cotterill line.

Don't know whether its of any use - probably not. But there is an area in Tipton called Cotterills Farm. I don't know why it is called this but may have come connection.

Hi Ruth,

Not sure about this one... but I have a John Cotterill Hassall born approx. 1814 in Heaton Staffordshire who likes to drop and then regain his 'Hassall' name. In some Census' he goes by John Cotterill, only to be in the next census back under 'Cotterill Hassall'. He is the son of Angelice (sp?) and unknown. I think however that this one will remain a black sheep for me.
Have you come across these names in your search?
