PS I am on broadband and have only had this problem since I changed to the faster speed!!

Did you get a new Router at the same time, or stick with an original ADSL Modem ?

Hi Newf,

I was provided with a nice new ADSL modem when I changed from dial up to broadband.

Sorry, misunderstood - read that as you were originally on BroadBand and upgraded it to a faster speed.

It reminded me that when I switched from 1.1 Meg to 6 Meg, my old ADSL  Modem was effectively limited to 2 Meg, so I needed a new router ....

Hi Newf,

You could be right, I was offered 8mg, 6 months after I joined my service provider, so I said yes please!  As my router was only 6months old that thought had not crossed my mind!!

I wonder if that is what is happening here, but having said that a friend of mine joined another ISP three weeks before me and my modem is one up from hers.  She is not getting this problem and operates on 8mgs+ but I am only opperating on 3.34mgs, which annoys me because I am much nearer the exchange!

Google the Name and Model of your Router - just to be sure, but I'd think if it was only 6 months old, it would be OK.

What about the filters one has to plug into any used phone / fax / SKY Box socket - all up to date and as new as the Router ?

Can you operate your PC from the Master phone socket ?

Hi Rabbit B - you're not with AOL are you? I've been experiencing this for some weeks now, as have others on the AOL message boards. Some have contacted AOL who give various bits of advice which don't seem to work, or blame BT, but I don't know if this is an AOL problem or a BT one.

When it first happened, I had to switch off at the sockets, counted to 30 and switched on again, this seemed to work better than just rebooting the computer. Now, 9 times out of 10 it will reconnect itself automatically at the 1st, 2nd or 3rd try.

Hi Nuwf and Judith

No I am not with AOL, I have a top of the range ISPS and all the sockets were new with the modem, have altered them all round several times.  Cannot test to main socket, because that is downstairs and my office is upstairs.

BT state that it is not their fault, have just check my speed and it is below 3mg this am so am going to contact  help line!!  Will also google the router model and make!
