Co Derry 1911 Directory lookup please.
« on: Thursday 16 August 07 15:57 BST (UK) »
From the Ulster Covenant 1912, I have found a Thomas Forrest, of Ballyquinn, Co Derry. I would be grateful for more information about this person and his family that may be gleaned from the relevant Directory.

The member of family I am looking for is Thomas Naismith Forrest, c aged 37 in 1911, married to Grace Ann Jane m.s. Stewart. There should also be a son. They came over from Scotland some time after 1900, but I don't have an address. All I have is a photo of the three of them taken by a photographer with premises in Belfast and Newtownards.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Alan

Can't see Thomas Forrest on 1912 Ulster Covenant (maybe a different spelling?) or any Forrest from Ballyquinn/Ballyquin but the is more than one Ballyquin in Co. Derry. One Ballyquin is in Carrrick Parish and another Ballyquin (not a townland) is in Aghadowey Parish. There might be other Ballyquins that are not townlands. If you check Covenant site again it should also give place of signing, etc. which might narrow down the place a bit.

If you put in Forrest on the Search field, you get several Thomas Forrests. The one I was interested is on the 4th page of the search results.

However, I see that the place of signing was Coatbridge which is in NW Lanarkshire, so although the address is given as Ballyquin, does this mean that this Thomas Forrest was living in Scotland at the time?

If this is the case then I will have to look at the other two Thomases I found, one with the address of Largy, Londonderry North, and the other Creenasmore, Donegal West.

I tried putting in Ballyquin/Ballyquinn as address & it didn't come up. Anyway...
yes Thomas Forrest from Ballyquin signed at Coatbridge in Scotland (6th column 'place of signing').

Thanks for confirming that Arghadowey.  Have you access to the Directories?

The person I am looking for would have moved to Ireland from Scotland, rather than the other way round. But it is also possible that the Thomas from Ballyquin had done just that, but at the time of signing the Covenant was just visiting relatives back in Scotland. So that still might not rule him out.

Anyway, I would like to follow up the two other Thomases, as well.

Could anyone with Directories check for me, please?

Hi,

I have a Thomas Forrest in my family tree from Ballyquin, Limavady but
he was born in 1883 (more than likely the one that signed the covenant in Coatbridge, Scotland),
