Roll of Honour Book Kirk Yetholm

I am trying to locate a roll of honour record for Kirk Yetholm.  I enquired at Kelso Library but they could not help me.

I found something on the internet where it said it was available at Wauchope Hall.  I have googled the hall to see if there is an email address but could not find one.  If anyone lives in this area cold you tell me if it is a plaque or a book that contains the names.

Hi Betty,

I might be able to help I don't live at Yetholm but have a book monumental Inscriptions and in the front it has a list of men who were killed in the 1st & 2nd world wars. Wachhope hall is the village hall in town yetholm and was named after Major-General Wachope who was killed leading troops at Magersfontein (Boer War) 11th Dec 1899.
If you can let me know who you are looking for I will look up my book for you.

Thanks for your offer of help.

Since putting my message on the forum I have found out more about the person I am interested in.

He is James Frater, Highland Light Infantry.  His name is on the Kirk Yetholm and Morebattle War Memorial Stone.  I have his details from the CWG.  He was married with one child.  I have also been given names of other Fraters who are buried in Kirk Yetholm from the MI book. 

If you can find any mention of James in the Roll of Honour section that would be great.

Hi Betty,

James Frater is listed under "In memory of the men of Yetholm who fell in the Great War 1914 - 1919."   It simply lists his name and regiment, i.e. H.L.I.  (Highland Light Infantry)

You may already have a note of the M.I.s for Frater in the Yetholm graveyard:

Christina Boa Frater  born 1879  died 1963

Archibald Stenhouse who died at Kirk Yetholm 27.2.1831 aged 51 years; Helen Frater his wife died 6.11.1851 aged 67 years  [ also 3 daughters and 2 grandchildren]

I did have the information on other Fraters in the Cemetery but thanks for your time.

I would have liked to have found a record of where Isabella Frater was buried.  She died on 26th March 1856 and according to her death certificate she was buried in Kirk Yetholm Cemetery.  There was probably no stone when the MIs were done.

I don't suppose you have a MI book for Morebattle.

Sorry, Betty, but I don't have Morebattle MIs.

I don't know what the percentage is but I think quite a few people buried in Yetholm did not have a monument. None of my (Blythe) family did, although some distantly-related Blythes did.

I don't know if you have found any more info, but in the Wauchope Hall there is/was a couple of plaques on the wall.  One for 1st WW & other for 2nd WW.  I can't remember if they were to commemorate the service people that had died or if it was for everyone from the parish that served.
