House History
« on: Wednesday 15 August 07 21:40 BST (UK) »
Hi

Trying to find when a house was built and who lived there. It's Croescade House Llantwit Fardre Pontypridd. I know it was owned by a Squire Perkins from 1941 to 1971! and that a Lady
Barrett also owned the property in early 1900 together with most of the land around Llantwit Fardre. I think it may go back as far as 1800's. I would love to know who built it.

I don't know where to start looking.  It appears many other families lived there also during the war they may been children there who may been evacuees. There is a book called under the parish lantern which shows pictures of Squire Perkins, and pictures of the Evans's family!!
Can anyone help

Thanks

Lancalot

I found out quite a lot about an old house that I lived in. I found there was a local Historical and Archaeological Society for the town I was interested in. They came up with the reason it was built, when , and the inhabitant's for the 19th century from the census. Have you tried googling the town?

Interesting problem. I live around the corner in a boring new house in Tonteg! Don't know anything about your house but have you tried Ponty library for any local history books that might mention it.  Also old maps might give an idea of when it was built. Also have you searched the censes on the address rather than occupants names?

Hi Lancalot,

I lived in Cilfynydd, Pontypridd for 6 years.

I've also heard that the library is good, and if you search for Pontypridd local history on the internet you'll find several interesting sites.

here's the official 'Ponty' site:  http://www.pontytown.co.uk/

Good luck,
Bob

Happy hunting :)

The Land Registry is where all those records are kept.

You may have to pay a fee but its worth asking at your local Land Registry Office.

I have the whole of the history of the land and whom it passed to  till I bought it on my House Deeds.  Wonderful hand written documents in fabulous script.
