Hi again BAT,
These Theobald PR extracts are from my "Spares" database, probably of dubious value but here goes anyway.
Samuel of Samuel & Elizabeth Theobald baptised at Cavendish 12 Apr 1741.
Samuel Theobald buried at Cavendish 15 Aug 1741, there was no qualifying info attached to this burial in the PRs, i.e. no "son of" or "husband of" etc.
Also found the following Theobald burials at Cavendish:-
Simon Theobald 12 Jan 1741.
John Theobald, Householder, 18 Feb 1749.
Margaret Theobald 16 Apr 1750.
Again, except for John no qualifying info in the PR entries.
There were no doubt other Theobald entries in both the Baptism and Burial PRs, I was on a wild goose chase for a Joseph Harris and only jotted down the Theobald entries as I noticed them.
There was a Samuel Tebbal baptised 27 Nov 1737 in Borley, Essex, of John and Mary, he would have been 35 if he married in 1772, quite a long shot but worth keeping in mind perhaps. As others have mentioned there were a lot of Theobalds on both sides of the Essex/Suffolk border and no doubt there was significant migration from both sides. At one stage I was interested in Samuel's brother, John, as a possible candidate for the husband of Elizabeth French but info from this board knocked that idea on the head.
Good luck with your research, it looks as though you are in with a chance with the 1748 Swefling Samuel.
