I am interested in these Davidsons of Culsalmond.  I think, according to the ANEFHS publication of Culsalmond kirkyard, they are not buried there but in Insch.  Were they from Insch originally?

Does anyone have details of the parentage of James Davidson that m Elspet Beattie?

I am doubly descended from Davidsons of Aberdeenshire - once from Patrick Davidson and Elspet Chalmers of Scotstoun Insch and once from James Davidson and Jean Singer of Newtown Kennethmont.

Thanks

Isabel

Hi Isabel

I am connected to James Davidson and Elspet Beattie, I do think they were orignally from Insch and I do know that James and Elspet's son John and his wife Elspet Leddingham are buried in Insch and John was baptied in Insch in 1778.

If you require anything else please let know.

Paul

The children of John Davidson & Elspet Ledingham were all born at Little Wrangham in Culsalmond. For every baptism apart from Margaret in 1808 William Scott and John Mitchell both at Wrangham were witnesses. Peter Herrigerrie and William Scott were Margaret's witnesses.

Hi
Dont know if this link is still open .but here goes  MY GGG grandmother is shown as living in Culsalmond  Her name was Amelia Mackie her son was George smith and apparently his father was Wiliam smith the local whisky distiller
Do you have any records that show if she had any brothers or sisters as I seem to have come to a dead end with this one
I did try a search a couple of years ago and people were very helpful but I still have no idea of her background Her parents were William Mackie and J Cruickshank  she went on eventually to marry a Alexander Fyfe but I cant find her death records either  Any place you can point me will be helpful
Thanks
Ronnie :D :D

In '51 Amelia Mackie is at Katherine St, South parish, Aberdeen city. Aged 32 born Insch, ABD a teacher of reading and writing, and a dressmaker. Son George Smith is with her, a tailor's apprentice aged 12, born Insch. His birth date on IGI was 22 Aug 1838, baptised 13 Sep - if you download the OPR baptism record for George from Scotlandspeople.gov.uk there may be some baptismal witnesses worth chasing up.
In 1841 the 2 of them are at Braes of Foudland in Insch (see Freecen.org.uk under "Amelea Mackie") with pauper William Mackie 76 and Jane Cruickshank 71.
This couple seem to have married 5 May 1799 at Gartly, ABD with the banns also being recorded at Cairnie on 21st April. The Gartly OPR reads: "April 14 1799 Willliam Mackie in the parish of Cairny and Jean Cruickshank in this parish were contracted in order to marriage & married May 5th."
