Thomas Ackroyd, Vicarage Street, Leeds
« on: Monday 13 August 07 20:46 BST (UK) »
Ok... I have an old photo of a Thomas Ackroyd of 2 Vicarage Street, Leeds, and I now believe he must have been born some time between about 1870 and 1900.

Can anyone please give me any information on this man, or on where exactly Vicarage Street is in Leeds or can anyone link an Ackroyd family to that area??

I had a look at the 1881 census to no avail  - any info that might help me find his link to my family welcome!!

Do you know when he lived at Vicarage Street?  The problem is...if we take the 1891 for example...and we assume he was born in Leeds...there's at least 2 possibilities.  Do you know when/who he married?  it might be worth getting his marriage cert to see what his dad was called and then it might be easier to figure out which one is him.

Sorry, I know absolutely nothing about him, except that he lived at 2 Vicarage Street, Leeds, and I have a photot of him with this address on the back.  Would just love to know how or where he fits into my family...

Have now been told that photos as postcards didnt come about till 1905, so that would mean he couldnt have been born till after about 1885, I think...

I have made enquiries with my family but no-one seems to relate with your photo.  My Grandfather Thomas Ackroyd left leeds around 1921 and came back to Halifax.  I think that the man on the photo looks a bit too young to be him.

sorry

No problem!

Thanks for getting back to me - dont even know when this chap was born, but in the larger photo he has a bowler hat, if that helps anyone date it!

Cheers for looking anyway!
