I run a database generated website for Macfarlanes and other Scottish clans at http://www.clanmacfarlanegenealogy.info which has photos and descendants of this couple supplied by Vicki Burton another of their descendants.
Hope you find something of interest there.

Hi

I think they are my great great grandparents.

I have traced them back through one of their sons, William. However Willaim's date of birth is a puzzle. They may have had two other sons called William who died as young children as there are birth certs for two Williams born in 1840 and 1852. My great grandfather was born in 1859 in Gartmore according to his mariage certificate and the census confirms that date.

Janet was widowed and lived with their three children and several young lodgers according to the census.

Its just a guess but I think John Mcfarlane's father was John Mcfarlane who married Elizabeth Shaw and if that is correect then John, ggp was born 1/3/1806

What is your link? Just thought am I allowed to ask that?
