I was first sent this photo 12 months ago and looking back on advice given it was decided that he may have been a Driver in RE. See what you think. I have e-mailed Jean his grandaughter to ask again if she is 100% sure pension records are her grandfathers.

The photo shows a RE (TF) soldier with the long service star(bottom right arm). In the pension records does it say he was in the RE (TF).

In the pension records albeit under a rubber stamp saying Fulwood Barracks Depot, there is what looks like 2nd East Lancs Field Company RE of which he appears to have served for 8 yrs on answer no 11 of attestation form.

I had a look at his service record, I would say in 1914 when he was discharge is right. However he may have rejoined at a later date. Possibly into the ASC/LC? because of his age, and then gone overseas with that unit. Its only a guess on my part.

You would need to go back to the Medal Index Cards & look at all of the Thomas Pilkington's. Who only have the British War Medal & Victory Medal. Once you have your list, you would need to go to WO363 service records & check them out to see if you find him. Also check out the other T.Pilkington's in WO364. And try the PINs

Pin 26 (Pension Case Files) in there are 22,756 personal files on people awarded or refused pensions from all services.

Pin 82 (Widows' & Dependants) pensions case files.

Hello ,
A good idea , I just had a look at MIC's and noticed a Thomas Pilkington ASC Driver T4/275185, he also had a RE Driver 305726, you never know . I have asked Jean what she wants to do .
She tells me also that Thomas's son won BWM & V medal, I was wondering if his widow is wearing her sons medals ?
