identify medals please

Hello ,
The lady on the left is wearing her late husbands medals here in 1923. We know from MIC and pension record that they are not WW1 .He was Thomas Pilkington 2883 . He was 42 in 1914. Any ideas very welcome.

To be honest, I'd have to disagree with you (sorry). It looks to me like both ladies are wearing the War and Victory medals.

Hello Neil,
I would like to agree with you but pension records in Ancestry suggest otherwise. He attested 9/9/14 in 4th Batt Manch. Rgt  number 2883. He had served previously and was a special reservist. He was with 2nd East Lancs Field Company R E  for 8 yrs  number J4 2983. I am told they were a TF outfit .Thomas was discharge as medically unfit for duty after only4 months 11/1/15, so doubtful he went abroad.
Perhaps you see our problem now. I would not think the widow would wear someone elses medals .

Perhaps we need the Manch Regt experts to take a look at Thomas Pilkington.

The first medal has a straight suspender and the second a ring suspender. I'm not sure the ring suspender in particular can realistically be anything else than the Victory, but I'm willing to be proved wrong. 

One explanation could be that she's wearing the medals of a brother or other relative? Perfectly possible. Just a thought.

These are British War and Victory Medals, no doubt about that.
What does the MIC show?

Hello Neil,
I have been in touch with John Hartley {off forum} and he has been a big help, but is not too knowledgable on medals. It is perfectly possible that she may be wearing another relatives medals I guess. Not too sure where to go from here, if anywhere . The other lady seems to have identical medals so I would not think they are too out of the ordinary.

He does not have a MIC for the numbers which are on his pension records on Ancestry. He was only in 4 months though.

I will also go for the BWM & VM. For both Lady's, If he was called up to the 4th (R) Battalion the Manchester Regt, this says he was an ex regular Manchester Regt soldier, & not a Royal Engineer, as he would have been called up by them (RE). Have you got the right soldier.

Pilkington's grandaughter has looked at the 'info' in pension records and is convinced that relatives mentioned in these records are hers. I will try and send in a photo of him later, which if I remember right shows him wearing a RE badge .
