Horan / Byrne Family
« on: Tuesday 14 December 04 12:56 GMT (UK) »
Am wondering if anyone can help me with information on my family history.

My grandfather was Edward J. Horan from Dublin b. Oct 1911 d. Oct 1978. He was actually born in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan but came to Dublin at a young age and lived in Russell Street, near Croagh Park before moving to North Dublin - Donnycarney. His parents were Daniel Horan and Bridget Brennan. He had at least 2 brothers Noel and Francis. I don't believe the family originated in Monaghan.

My grandmother (and Edward's 1st wife) was May (Mary?) Byrne, b. 1912, d. Dec 1950 (bur Glasnevin). Her parents were Charles Byrne and Mary Walker. One source informed me they were from South Dublin but I have no evidence. She had 2 elder sisters Sarah (Sadie) Mrs. MacNally and Jane Mrs. Havelin.

Any help or guidance would be very much appreciated.

Hi Valerie.
Thanks for the message.
I can't see a connection immediately but I'll let you know if I come across anything. May I suggest you try to get your grandparents wedding certificate. You can apply by fax to the the Genral Register Office in Dublin via www.groireland.ie for a small fee.
Good luck, let me know how you get on as any information mey well tie in.

Denis

Very new to searching for relatives, if i have no idea when they were married how much of a problem is it to obtain there marrage certificate.

I have done something positive by writting to my first cousin in Dublin to get hold of some facts, if any thing turns up will let youknow.

Thank you for your reply

Hi Valerie.

You are doing the right thing. Get what you can from any relations first. It's amazing sometimes what insignifacant details become important along the way,

Keep in touch.

Denis

I would be delighted if you could scan and send them. My Byrne line was from that part of Dublin and I may well be able to tie them in.

My e-mail is (*)

Many Thanks
Denis

Hi
I appear to have the same names as you turning in up in my research.  My great uncle William Moore married a Margaret Brennan.  I do not know when William was born but his brother Thomas (my grandfather) was born in 1888.  They lived around the East Wall area and my grandfather and his sons were all dockers.  My mother's godmother was Elizabeth Byrne.  She lived at 8 Lower Jane Place East Wall and died 21 February 1954.  I think she was married to Miles Byrne who died November 1928.  Their prayer cards were found in my mother bible after she died in 1998.  Does any of this mean anything to you?

Only just realized we have been in contact before.  I sent you the scans.  Was there any connection.
