*(VERY) LATE ADDITION*Being an incredibly tedious (so my children tell me!) pedant, I looked it up and checked all the references - like the meticulous gene
Alogist that I am (not always!)

According to the OED: Genealogy is the study and practice of drawing up family trees - to paraphrase.
It comes from the Greek -
genealogia,
genealogikos and the stem is
genea, which means race.
And now, I am racing for the door before you all start throwing OEDs at me!

Na na ner na na - missed!
