Website that gives forenames interchangeability
« on: Thursday 02 August 07 18:38 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Sorry for the subject heading, but found it difficult to say what I meant!

I have "lost" the wonderful website which gives alternative forenames for other names. For instance Elizabeth would offer Bessie, Beth, Lizzie etc. I think it is Scottish first names but not sure.

Can someone please post the address.

I need to check, I don't think they were, but in the 1830 to 1840's were Elizabeth and Isabel (in Aberdeenshire) ever used as an "interchangeable" name?

Thank you

Aberdeenshire; Brechin, Robb, Clark, Hardie, Johnston, Watt, Elmslie, Milne, Harper, Adam, Edmond, Laing, Gibson, Aedie, Jameson, Argo & Doverty.
Booth, Watson, Grothenwell, Ewen, Mackie, Simpson, Piper, Taylor, Davidson, Willox, Chalmers & Gordon
Still, Fraser, Robertson, Burnet & Lumsden
Banffshire; Cruickshank, Bennet, Broug, Allen, West & Lyal
Caithness; Sutherland
Herefordshire, Worcester, Monmouthshire, Gloucestershire; Wagstaff, Jones, Turner, Wiggett, Hannes

Sorry I don't know the website but I think in Scotland Elizabeth & Isabel might have been interchangeable. Also Agnes/Nancy/Ann.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
