The photo was taken by T.R. Williams, 256 Regent Street.

The dates you suggest are spot on! I checked the back of the photo with a photo site which has fronts and backs as examples, and it said 1855 or 1862.

you can stretch the date line a tad further as Thomas Richard Williams (b1824-d1871) was trading from his studio in Regents Street from 1854 to 1869. If there is mention of an award for excellence in portraits on the reverse of the photograph then it would have been taken after 1862 as that was when he was presented with the award at the International Exhibition of that year.

I feel that with the undersleeving, the Bell (over) sleeve and the fall of the crinoline that this study was taken between 1860 and 1865.

I'd be interested to know which website you're referring to, Helen...every clue helps :D

If it is 1855, it's really early, possibly the earliest I've seen.
