Oxford English Dictionary stuffy old journal but definitive text! says

census

  • noun (pl. censuses) an official count or survey of a population.

  — ORIGIN Latin, from censere ‘assess’.

I still prefer censi, it sounds better!!    even though I have never used it!  I might now start a trend!  Lets all write to Balderdash & Piffle at the OED they are researching all new words!  We might have just invented one!
