Mannings from Longford?
« on: Tuesday 31 July 07 09:08 BST (UK) »
I have an Owen Manning b 1807 Ireland. He married a lady shown as Margaret b c1807 Ireland. On one of the UK census she is shown as born Country Langford Ireland.  As she is shown b County Langford I thought it may be that he was born the same place  :-\

Their children were born starting 1827 Shoreditch London.

I can't find anything on the IGI. Any help would be very much appreciated  :) Lyn

Hello exessexgirl,

There are three items you require when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Hi Christopher

I don't know anything about the Mannings I'm afraid. Thank you for taking the time to reply. I'll certainly remember your comments before posting any more requests regarding Irish connections.

Hi Lyn,

Owen and Margaret married and had children. You have your starter for one as one of the game show hosts used to say. I think I may be going back to the days when I listened to Radio Luxembourg but think one of the telly hosts also used the phrase.

What church did they attend in England? The denomination may be fairly important but in many cases is also only a rough guide as there were Protestant missionaries converting Catholics so some families may well appear in records of two different faiths.

Now although Owen was in London some years before Griffith's Valuations took place in Ireland it's a good idea to have a look at them to see if there were Mannings left in Longford as they may be related ... see John Hayes failteromhat.com website.

The Valuation extracts show one Manning family ...

Michael Manning, Main Street, Longford,(Townparks), Templemichael, Longford

There were also Mannings in many other counties.

Christopher

Hi

I also have Owen Manning in my tree,  our link is, their youngest daughter married into the Daniels family in London.

Have you found anymore info on them?.  It would be nice to know if they married in Ireland or met in the UK!!!!
