In 1871 Edward's birthplace looks like Grimston, Kent.

He is 30 years old.

I've just looked for that on streetmap, can't find Grimston :-\
awkward b*ggers ain't they? ::)
Thanks for that Bearkat

Thanks for the 1901 stuff too ;)
I suppose it must be her !!!!!!

Interestingly enough i was "googling" for Grimston and found this: "Edward Stanhope, of Grimston, Kent, whose burial here is recorded on the 23rd October 1619"

From: 'The fabric of the church: Lady chapel and crypt', The records of St. Bartholomew's priory [and] St. Bartholomew the Great, West Smithfield: volume 2 (1921), pp. 74-90. URL: http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.asp?compid=51773. Date accessed: 29 July 2007.

So there WAS a Grimston..........
Sweeney Derry City and Dublin and Skerries.
Morrell Dublin, Robinson Skerries and Crumlin Dublin.
Bass Ireland, Farrell Ireland, Mulholland Ireland.

I 've never heard of Grimston either (bet casalguidi has ;)).

If he was a Kent coalminer I would expect him to come from the Snowdown/Tilmanstone/Bettshanger area.

In 1871 they are living at the same address as the FRANKLIN family - Richard was a porter and his wife, Emma, was also a needlewoman born Grimston, Kent.

No, she hasn't - at least not a place name ;D

However, Edward Abraham KING was baptised in Darenth (as was his sister Emma who later looks to have married Richard FRANKLIN) ;)

Although we have found out that Darenth was in Dartford district, not Gravesend as we expected ???

No luck with stephen cornwall, father of Matilda though, wondering if it was a made-up name for her marriage cert ???

Yes, but if this information (born Gravesend) is taken from the 1881 census only - what do all the others say ie.

1841
1851
1861
1871 Grimston (could be Green St Gn - Darenth)?
1881 Gravesend (could be a mistake if information given by somebody else)
1891 - was he still alive then?

Heres  a possible for Matildas Father in 1861
Nursery Houses,Framfield,Sussex
RG9 Piece 575 Folio 34 Page 11

Stephen Cornwall,Head,Unm,46,Nurseryman,Framfield
Thomas Martin,Lodger,Wid,40,
George Martin,Lodger,9,Mayfield

Cant find Matilda under Cornwall or variants its possible she was illegitimate then she would have been registered in her Mothers name,But knew who her Father was and later took his name.

According to the IGI, somebody (a private researcher) has entered Matilda CORNWALL born 1842 Framfield, Sussex with parents Alfred WATSON and Elizabeth CORNWALL.  There is also a brother listed - Stephen CORNWALL b1846 Framfield.  Does this help find them?
