Look-up Request - Matilda Cornwall (sp)!!!!

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for information on Matilda "Cornwall" (if this is the right name), I can't find her on any census' between 1842/3 (when she was born - taken from ancestry 1881 census) and 1865 (when she married Edward Abraham King(?)).

She was born in Gravesend, her father's name (apparently) is "Stephen Cornwall", (father's name comes from a copy/image of marriage certificate between her and edward king), which I received from another rootschatter :-)

In trying to trace any family info re parents (or her pre marriage) me any my partner have run ourselves into an interesting shaped loop!

We also - in this loop - keep coming across a link with a gent called Alfred watson, but have no idea if/where he fits.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Istari!
Have you tried 'Cornwell'?  Only I have that name in my tree and it has gone between the two spellings (including 'Cornall' in 1891).  Most of mine come from Sussex.

Struggling with this one.

In the 1871 census, is she the Matilda King, aged 28, occupation needlewoman, married to Edward King an unemployed coalminer with a son Edward aged 1 born Gravesend? Living at 4 George St, Stepney.
If so, her place of birth is given as Franfield, Surrey.

Hi Bearkat,Could i ask you what Edward King's place of birth is on the 1871 census? As we've got it as Gravesend/Darenth he was born 1840/42 so is about 2+ years older than her.
We do keep coming across a Matilda who's born in Framfield,but ours is(supposedly)born Gravesend

She is turning out to be a difficult one

Just noticed that we have them in the 1881 census,but there they also have a daughter called Elizabeth Matilda,who should be on the 1871 census as a 3 yr old, they DO have an 11 year old called William Edward in 1881.

I think the 1901 census says she was born Framfield, Sussex living in Cliffe at Hoo, Kent - where she was living in 1881 so I would suggest that her birthplace on the 1881 census is wrong

In 1871 Edward's birthplace looks like Grimston, Kent.

He is 30 years old.

By 1901 Matilda was 58,  widowed and living on her own means.

Only one child at home - Hilda M aged 17 born Cliffe.
