henry seddon (siddons)
« on: Sunday 29 July 07 08:48 BST (UK) »
Hi Listers,
               Seeking information for Henry Seddon,

In 1865 Henry was serving as a private with the Hm 12th Lancers stationed at Hillsborough Barracks Sheffield,in april 1865 he Married Elizabeth Mills of White Croft Sheffield.the marriage certificate gives age for both as full and Henrys father as John Seddon occupation collier.

Some kind person has checked the 1871 census for Aldershot where the 12th Lancers were then serving.Henrys suname given as Siddons age 33 unmarried address shown him as coming from Wardley Lancs,This Henry must be the same Henry Seddon as in the 1881 census His wife Elizabeth is shown as Siddons still living at White Croft where she was married from but was shown as a widow

In 1889 thier daugther married and certificate shows father as Henry Seddon.( soldier)

On the information given can anyone help with a birth date and an address where he and his father/ mother siblings were living.

                thank you .
                                 Jim (sheffield)

Hi Jim

The same Henry Siddons is in the 1861 census aged 24, 12th Royal Lancers but gives his place of birth as Wigan.  Wardley is about 15 miles away from Wigan and is close to Swinton and Manchester.

In 1871 he is 33 years old but I dont agree that his birthplace says Wardley (What do other Rootschatters Think? -   RG10/818; Folio: 7; Page: 7
Elizabeth is with her mother and brothers with her daughter Ann E aged 9 months at the same address in Sheffield. Listed as Married and a Button Maker.

I have searched high & low in 1851 & 1861 but cant find him  :-\

Perhaps his military records may tell you more - try posting on the military board - someone may have access to records ;)

Cheers & Good Luck :-*

Hi,

For what it`s worth I would say his birthplace on the 1871 census looks like Hendley which is possibly Hindley (inbetween Wigan and Leigh).  The HE for Henry is identical to the start of his place of Birth.

Regards,
Mo
