Annie Donovan
« on: Saturday 28 July 07 17:28 BST (UK) »
:)I am not sure if I am posting this in the correct place but here goes anyway.
I am trying to find info on my grandmothers father John Alfred Donovan. My grandmother was Annie Donovan born c1866 in Skibbereen, she was a pupil teacher in 1881 at the Convent of Notre Dame in Battersea. She was governess to children at Martray Manor in Ballygawley Co Tyrone. She married Joseph Hamilton in Co Tyrone in March 1888 and her father's occupation was given as schoolmaster.  She had at least 1 brother named Timothy.  I have been unable to trace John Alfred and don't know which school he taught at, neither do I know what his wife's name was. I would be really delighted if someone can give any help at all with my query.

Hello Jocette !  Welcome to the mad, mad world of RootsChat ... we are an eccentric bunch of enthusiasts, and always ready to help a new person !

The above link is for the County Tyrone board ... it would probably be better to put your request on there as the Irish members are more likely to see it, and be able to help ?

Good luck !

Thank you Lydart for pointing me in the right direction. I was not sure whether to go for the Cork board or the Tyrone board.

Regards

I am new to this website.  My roots show a Timothy Donovan married  Mary Crotty and they had a son, Edward c. Donovan born in 1863 at 19 Washington Square, Ireland, but I don't know what town. Maybe no connection to your roots, but I thought i'd try.

Thank you Mary. Do you think Grotty might be Crotty?  Do you think Edmond might be Edward? Then it might be my family.  I still wonder where 19 Washington Square is located?  Cheers, Bob, (Ribcage)

there's a Washington street in Cork city ... might tie in with Skibbereen connection.
