My question is: what was the maiden name of John Gloag's wife Harriet, and when/where did they marry?

They don't appear to be in the IGI.

Marriage John Gloag - Ellen Grace Sep 1881 Prestwich 8d 434 / can't see any of them in 1901!
Bonjour tout ;D

How about this one ?...(with a few more children)....

1901

Chorlton RG13/3680 Folio 131 Page 18

Ellen Gloag Head Widow 39 Lancs Liverpool
John do Son S 12 *
Mary Elizabeth do Daur S 17 Cap Maker *
Eleanor do Daur S 15 Cap Cutter *
Annie (sic) do Daur S 11 *
Edith do Daur S 9 *
Maud Alice do Daur S 6 *
Emily do Daur S 4 *
Beatrice May do Daur S 1 *

222 South Street, Ardwick (Openshaw St Barnabas & St Luke)

*All birth places are dittoed down from Ellen and therefore showing incorrectly as Liverpool. The last four children's births were all registered in Chorlton District and so their actual birth place is probably Openshaw as it was on the 1891 census for the older children.

This might tie up one loose end ;D

Might be worth posting a new request - not sure how many potential helpers are still with us here on page 5  :P
