Any Census Look up please
« on: Wednesday 25 July 07 05:05 BST (UK) »
Would someone do me the favour of a look-up to try and bring down one of my brick walls.

I`m looking for a Jonathan Pearson  in 1841 or better still his father Robert PEARSON in any census.
Jonathan PEARSON was born according to his death certificate and census information between 1817 & 1820.
There is a baptism for Jonathan Emmerson PEARSON in 1819 to Robert & Margaret PEARSON this in West Herrington, Durham, England. Robert was a miner or pitman.

Thanks for any help.
George.

George,

Looking at your posts over the past year it seems that this is a long-standing struggle!

For the benefit of other rootschatters I hope you don't mind if I put in a link to this thread which contains much background information? http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,177243.0.html

With regard to Robert, how do you know that he was still alive in 1841?

best wishes

Jennifer

No problem.
It is quite a sturdy brick wall. I`ve been hammering at it for a while. Managed to find Jonthans fathers name last year I thought that was the breakthough, but it`s slow.

I`m hoping I find Robert  living otherwise I`ve just got a big black hole. I`m not sure that this combination of Robert & Margaret are my 2xgt grandparents but If I could find them in the census`s maybe there would be some clues in the location or children.

Thanks for the interest Jennifer.

Regards.

George.

there was also a Jonathon Pearson b. 16.03.1821 bapt. 20.06.1821 Gateshead father John mother Isabella

did you get his place of birth from the census? and the year the same? if it says he was b. 1820 on his detah cert. he could have poss. died before his birthday that year making him b. 1821 (does that make sense in my blonde world it did!)

Hi Toni,
From 2 definate census and his death certificate I get 3 different years for his birth. 1817/1818, 1818/1819 & 1820/21. so this baptism in 1819 falls right between these, not yet sure it`s ours but hopefully I`ll have the full entry for next week and can take it from there.
I have got the information from the Gateshead register but Jonathans  father is definately Robert, this from a marriage certificate. Robert was a Miner,

He seems vague about everything. Places of birth he says are, Chester le Street. Lamesly, then in 1871 just Durham, I think this refers to the County. This baptism in Houghton le Spring isn`t too far from Chester le Street.

Thanks for the interest.

Regards.

Hello all! Excuse me for entering into this discussion, as I have no census materials to add to the grist for the mill. :'( However, I do have the Co. Durham CofE marriage index from 1812-1837 here at home and can only find one Robert PEARSON who fits the time frame: Robert Pearson married a Margaret PRINGLE 1819/10/04 at Sunderland.  Most of the other Robert Pearsons in Co. Durham have married later (mostly in the 1830's).  Thinking that thery would have married before their son was born abt 1819-1829.... don't know if this helps or hurts the search.  ::)  Pat

Pat, that would match with Robert & Margaret being his parents wouldn.t it - wonderful.

on the 1841 census they would have rounded his age down to the nearest 5 so he would be listed as 20 years old.

would he have been married by then?

Thanks for the marriage Pat, I did spot that on the I.G.I. I think it was. I can`t rule it out. If I could find them in the 1841 & 1851 census it might explain something.

Thanks for everyones input. I`m still chipping away.
