My gt grandfather
Joseph Richardson Caswell died
between 1881 and 1896.
He was born in Gateshead in
1859 but moved to Jarrow between 1871 and 1881.
In 1881 he appears in census RG11/p5024/f95/p20 with his wife Elizabeth Cousins and his children John and Joseph and Elizabeth's brother George.
He appears on his son George William's marriage certificate in 1896 as '
deceased - Manager of a Goldmine'. There are family stories that suggest his goldmine was in South Africa so he might possibly have died there but the stories also relate that he was forced to retire when he got a sliver of metal in his eye and had to return to England.
A relative of mine has a similar story in her tree but attributed to a different person.

I just cant find any reasonable reference to his death.

There is one Joseph Caswell who died in 1884 with an estimated birth year as 1854 in Litchfield but almost every fact is so wildly out I dont think this is him.
Can anyone help?
Paul
