Annison
« on: Sunday 22 July 07 21:09 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find details of a family/families called Annison around the Sunderland area. I can go back to a Rowland Annison born ca. 1580, but there were loads of branches of the family (lots of males were called Ralph for some reason!). Some names and dates I've gleaned from the internet and from gravestones, but a few don't quite seem to tie up exactly.

Hmm - thanks Lee. I don't seem to have any of them in my tree, however, although I do have an Elizabeth Annison who died in 1861 aged 3. No Rackleys at all.
I'll put your info to one side and see if it fits in anywhere (like a jigsaw puzzle!).

One of the Annisons (a Ralph Brown Annison) was a quite wealthy wine and spirit merchant who had his head office in Sunderland and a depot in Cardiff. He lived from 1851 to 1912. I wonder if that fits in with your stuff at all?

Cheers and thanks for the reply.

Ralph Brown Annison (RBA) was born 23 Oct 1851 in Sunderland and died 5 Mar 1912.
His first wife was Sarah Scarborough (1852-1881), he then remarried to Frances Jane Taylor (12 Feb 1866-13 Oct 1948) at Teesdale.
According to my tree RBA's parents were Ralph (30 Jun 1827-21 Jul 1867) and Mary Ann Brown (1830-26 Oct 1887).
His grandparents (again according to my findings) were Ralph (11 Aug 1794-1866)(an inspector of the River Wear police) and Ann Brown (1794-?).

I'd be very interested if you have any details of William Annison & Mary Donnison, however. There were dozens of Annisons about at the time and it's not easy trying to keep track of whom is whom!

Hi, just found this thread when googling. looking into my Annisons of Sunderland. i have:

Elizabeth Annison 12/7/1789 (d. 1821) = James Alexander legender
Eliz was d/o Thomas Annison 1757  =  9/3/1782 Elizabeth Barker. possible 2nd marriage 18/9/1799 to Mary Crawford.

i was pleased to see the Barker - it ties in with a descendant on this line using it as a middle name & we didn't know where it came from til now!!

can't find a bap for Thomas 1757 although tress on A* have s/o Ralph Annison & Ann Wilkinson. not found proof yet!

Thomas & Elizabeth had 4 other children i have found (DRO):
Joseph Barker Annison 1783
William Annison 1785 - 1785
Thomas Annison 1787 - 1787
Thomas Annison 1791

Frank,

There are lots of branches of the Annison family in Sunderland.

My great-great grandmother was Hannah Annison (1830-1874).  Hannah Annison married Harrison Coundon in 1852.

Her parents and siblings as far as I can make out were :

MATTHEW ANNISON (1803 - 1874) married HANNAH WATSON (c1805 - 1893?)

RICHARD (b. 1827)
HANNAH (see above)
JOHN 1832
MARY 1835
ELIZABETH  (b. 1841)
ANN   (b. 1845)
KIRKELL 1847
MICHAEL  (b. 1849)
GEORGE (b. 1853)

The census records have lots of them, so there's no shortage of info for you to work with!

Thanks for all that. To be honest I haven't had much time lately to do work on the tree. However I've just had a look and can find no record of Matthew or his wife Hannah. Perhaps your message will get me going again. I'll keep you informed if I find any connection!
