There is a marriage for a Richard Simkins in 1793 on FindMyPast in Streatley, Berks.

May be a lead.

Trees, some of my old (unconfirmed) info on the NICHOLS line in Duns Tew looks a bit like this. I havent added it in to my tree as I wasnt sure with its sources. Maybe some other readers will be able to comment on it?

BTW Tree, was the 1841 census info you shared transcribed or is it the original image? I believe that the birth dates for John & Susanna NICHOLS should be 1810 as opposed to 1816. Very easy for a '0' to look like a '6'.

I'm seeing some very strong connections to the SIMPKINS & CANNINGS. That's prob to be expected in such a small village at that time?

Thanks Sue there is the Margaret Nichols again so my Richard's father was John a road contractor and we have John Frederick marrying Mary HOWELLS who is linking Susanna Mary and Richard in 1841
I think that is it
I do so agree with you Steve you have to be able to confirm the sources carefully. I don't show them on the web site as it would be immense but if you want any of the sources we have used pm me or contact me through our site
So William Nichols was the Innkeeper I expect he will turn out to be Margaret's husband
