Hit a brick wall CHAMBERLAIN/FREEMAN
« on: Saturday 21 July 07 10:20 BST (UK) »
I have hit the wall. Can anyone help? I am looking for information on my grandparents John Joseph D Chamberlain born 1884 Exeter and Emily Freeman born 1885 Exeter they married in 1907. They had about 6 children. The first was born before they were married  and he only lived a few months.
They were my mother parents her name was Beatrice Chamberlain. When my mother was born they were living in St Pancras Lane Exeter and that is as much as I have been able to find. Thankyou for reading this.
regard Betty

The John Chamberlain / Elizabeth Halse marriage is on FreeBMD.

Would you like me to trace them on previous census?

I can't see an Emily Freeman born 1885 Exeter, but there is one born Kingston, registered March 1885 in Crediton. There also another one called Emily Aileen Freeman registered Sep 1886 Kingsbridge. I guess the first one is more likely to be yours - would you like her census details?  :)

Many many thanks you have managed to find alot more than I have and it will be a great help. If you wouldn't mind checking others :) I would be very grateful. I do know that my gradmother was only Emily Freeman because this was on my mothers birth certificate so any information will be a bonus. As I live in Australia its difficult to go and view these records again  Would you be able to find out where John went and when he died. Once again a very big thankyou.

I can't help with information after 1901 but here's an Emily in 1891 - You'll need to confirm that this is the right family by ordering her marriage cert. Especially as her age doesn't seem completely right  :-\ Will have a second look ...

Kingston, Devon

George Freeman, head, 47? Labourer
Mary J, wife, 44

Your a real gem I dont know how to thank you enough. I have just been browsing through the census myself and came up with the same. I have been in touch with relations in the UK and have organised for them to get copy of marriage cert. If you should happen to find more information I would be grateful. Thankyou

I think we should leave Emily alone until the cert arrives and concentrate on the Chamberlains.

If you have access to census, then I'll let you search for yourself - just shout if you get stuck and we'll try to help  :)
